Evocart

This project was realised in cooperation with Evocortex, a start up which builts autonomous driving platforms for logistics. Our goal during this cooperation was to think behind the logistics field and find a new usecas for this product.

Empathy

Process

We decided hospitals, gastronomy, hotel business and supermarkets as promising sectors to find a new usecase. Due to that we performed shadowing, interviews and “be your own customer” to analyse the pain points in that fields.

Top insight

1. Wheelchair users can hardly shop independently

"I have someone who can help me but I also want to be independent. I don't want to have to rely on anybody. I want to have the option of doing things myself." -Daniellability, Youtuber

To fully understand those pain points, we borrowed a wheelchair and experience those challenges ourselfs.

Synthesis

A design question emerged ...

How might we help wheelchair users to shop more independent?

Ideation

Decition

Due to the discovered pain points and the advantages of the autonomous driving platform from Evocortex, we decided to build an autonomous shopping cart. This follows the customer around the shop and enables an independent shopping experience.

Prototype

Steps

For prototyping and testing our concept, we built two components. The first was the app, with which the user can reserve and enable the cart in front of the shop. The second one was the cart, which gives visual feedback and informs the user about his status (error, wait, etc.). With Arduino and Protopie we connected the app with the cart and were able to test our concept. Due to the restricted time of this project we mainly focused on the check in / out process and the interaction of the user with the cart.

Result

The following video demonstrates the szenario which the user experiences with our final product.
